After another sabatical, Billy came back in 2009, with three singles: When She Comes To Me, What If I Told You, and Somebody Loves You.
"When She Comes To Me" was recorded in early 2009 for Guitar Hero V. Billy had the song lying around for a while without ever having a specific reason to go in and cut it. "I felt the track would be a good fit for the GH crowd, and after hearing it, they agreed."
"Somebody Loves You" was inspired by observing a downtrodden young woman walking aimlessly in Central Park on a day when he was out on his landscaping rounds. "The title came to me in a flash, and I wrote most of it in the following ten minutes or so, while continuing to work around The Lake. When I got home later in the day, I sat down and played it straight through." Billy had been talking with Mitch Davis from Orba Squara about doing a recording project, and thought "Somebody Loves You" would be as good a song as any to start with.
"What If I Told You" became part of the aforementioned recording project, when Billy awoke one morning with bits of this yet to be composed song floating around in his head. "Instead of ignoring them, I decided to get up and put the song together...which I managed to do in fairly short order. I played this for Mitch, along with Somebody Loves You, and we decided to do them both. We used what I'd call an "inverse" recording process, in that we started with me singing and playing each song on acoustic guitar...then building the arrangement from there. We had no pre-planned idea of how the songs would sound when finished, it was a real voyage of discovery."
